Nautical Studies
The National Diploma in Technology, Nautical Studies Course was commenced in 1987 with the assistance
Of the International Maritime Organization (UNDP project) and the Ministry of Ports and Shipping ,Sri Lanka. The International Maritime Organization provided consultants, equipment and training fellowships for local staff . The Chief Nautical Adviser , formulated the syllabi ,set up the laboratories , and monitored the operation of the course for a period of two years .The course satisfies STCW-95 Convention requirements for Officer –in-Charge of a Navigational watch.
Professional Courses:
Certificate of Competency – Class III (Deck Officer)
Students who possess the National Diploma in Technology ( Nautical Studies) are exempted from all written question papers of the Certificate of Competency – Class III (Deck Officer) Examination Those who possess a minimum of 6 month bridge watchkeeping experience during their sea training period are eligible to appear for the Oral Examination of Class-III Deck Officer Examination
