MARITIME STUDIES DIVISION.

The Division of Maritime Studies functions under the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering. Lecturers in the Division include Marine Engineers and Master Mariners and the services of lecturers of the other academic Departments are also obtained for its academic programmes. The Division conducts the following courses at NDT level
The Division of Maritime Studies consists of a Marine Engineering Laboratory, an Instrumentation and
Control System Laboratory, a Radar Simulator and Navigation Equipment Laboratory, a Chart Room,
a seamanship room and a Library. The major equipment available for training of students include a
Marine Engineering Test Bed and a Radar &Navigation Simulator.
Facilities available in the Physics, Chemistry, electrical machines, electronics, mechanics and
Thermodynamics Laboratories as well as in the Main Workshop are used for these courses.
The University is situated bordering a large lake and the specially built Boat House and Jetty provide
Ideal conditions for Life Boat and Life Raft training. The Division uses these facilities to conduct
short courses in Sea Survival and Proficiency in Sea Survival Craft.
